Six Bamboo Flooring Installation Tips
If you are thinking of installing bamboo flooring yourself you will want to follow a few simple rules for a problem free job. Before you begin you should learn what you can about installing flooring in general, either online or by buying a book, this way, when you get to the first tip you are ready.
1. Once you get your selection of bamboo flooring you will want to read the materials that come with it. Usually a booklet. This is the guide that the manufacturer gives to help people that like to do it themselves do it, and do it right. The manufacturer wants you to be able to install their product, so you will tell others and they will buy the same type of flooring. Making more money with that little booklet is a good idea.
So, when you read this booklet set you mind not to take any short cuts, the manufacturer has a vested interest in making sure that you get it right. Plus, if you do not follow the instructions, and the flooring happens to be bad and needs to be replaced, you will be out of luck when they refuse to replace it due to improper installation.
2. Just like a person moving to a new location your bamboo must acclimatize itself to the location where it is to be installed. The temperature and humidity have to as close to the average that your installation location is going to be most of the time. It may take three day, 72 hours, for the bamboo to be ready for local installation.
3. Prepping the sub floor is next, making sure that it is level, clean, and dry. Use a leveler if need to be fill in dips or to make any slopes more gentle. Just covering over these areas will result in an inferior job that will greatly shorten the life of your bamboo flooring.
4. Having already read the manual you will know which is the better method of installation, nailing, gluing, or a floating floor. Nailing is easier method and is suitable for solid and engineered bamboo floors, gluing is more of a task but can be used by any type of flooring.
5. Is your flooring going to be above the grade, or grond level, or below it? You will want to be aware of the moister content that can be had at even to below ground level. The floating floor installation method, of no nails or glue, will be the best to allow for expansion as the bamboo flooring absorbs moister and then contracts when the moister leaves it. Just like that door that sticks sometimes.
6. Having the proper equipment, from the tools you will use to the clothing that you wear, if important. Protecting yourself from any hazzards and still being able to lay the glue or pound the nails is a must.
