Flooring comes in such a variety of styles that choosing which you want in your home is almost impossible. With each type requiring a different kind of maintenance and care. Here is a list of the flooring types that you can choose from.
Carpet - That good old stand by, coming in a variety of indoor, out door, and everything in between. This is wall to wall and is made from woven or felted from natural or man-made fibers.
Laminate - This is very similar to hardwood in appearance, but made with plywood or MDF (medium density fiberboard) core with the top layer being made of a plastic laminate.
Bamboo - made from bamboo this is a type of hardwood flooring. Bamboo is known to be durable, more environmental friendly hardwood flooring
Area rugs - Made from woven or felted from natural or man-made fibers as carpet is this covers only an area of the floor and not wall to wall.
Resilient flooring - Is a catch all division of flooring as it covers many different manufactured products including linoleum, sheet vinyl, vinyl composition tile (VCT), cork (sheet or tile), and others.
Wood flooring - Many different kinds of trees can be used as wood flooring, oak, maple, birch, and others. Re-used lumber is another source of wood flooring.
Ceramic tile - This covers a variety of clay products fired into thin units which are set in beds of mortar or mastic with the joints between tiles grouted. Varieties include quarry tile, porcelain tile, terracotta tile, and others.
Stone - Natural stones are cut into a variety of sizes, shapes, and thicknesses for use as flooring. Stone flooring is usually set in mortar and grouted similar to ceramic tile.
Terrazzo - Consists of marble or other stone aggregate set in mortar and ground and polished to a smooth surface.
Seamless chemical flooring - Usually made of latex, polyester, or epoxy compounds which are applied in liquid form to provide a completely seamless floor covering.
These are the most common types of flooring materials, but, like with anything else, flooring material is only limited by the imagination of the people.
